The ecological actions of the
campsite in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon
Our family campsite is located in a privileged environment, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon. The Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon was created on May 7, 1997. The main missions entrusted to the Parc du Verdon are to protect and restore the region’s heritage; to contribute to economic, social and cultural development; and to promote quality hospitality, in close proximity to the spectacular Gorges du Verdon.
Our campsite has the Green Key label
Since 2012, the sustainable approach of the Chasteuil Verdon Provence campsite has been consecrated by the Clef Verte label, which we have been committed to renewing ever since. The first international ecolabel, the Clef Verte label recognizes our ecological and socially responsible approach.
At our Castellane campsite, we apply efficient waste management (reduction, collection, recycling), control our energy and water consumption, and promote responsible purchasing, particularly for groceries and cleaning products. And camping in such a magnificent natural setting, beside the river and lulled by birdsong, seems to us to be a good way of raising our campers’ awareness of these values.
Label Valeurs Parc: our approach to the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon
We are also a partner of the Parc Régional du Verdon and proud to be a Camping Valeurs Parc. For us, this label was a way of proudly displaying our values and those of the Parks: attachment to the territory, a strong human and social dimension, preservation and enhancement of our heritage. More than an individual label, this mark enables us to work in a network with other companies also attached to the Verdon region.
Domaine Chasteuil Verdon Provence is an independent campsite
We’re proud to be one of the last independent campsites in the Gorges du Verdon.
We’re not part of a camping group or chain, which means we don’t pay shareholders and we do camping the way we like it: with few rentals and a majority of camping pitches.
To keep up with the times, we undergo a lot of training and often challenge ourselves to ensure that our guests have the best possible vacation.
Our environmental policies
Our environmental policy
Waste
- Selective sorting: we provide campers and staff with special containers for household waste, recyclable waste (cardboard, plastic, etc.) and glass.
- Composters: we have installed five composters and bins for collecting organic waste, which we use to make potting soil for our gardens and plots.
- Used batteries: we collect used batteries at the grocery store.
- Ecocups: we offer eco-cups for our events (welcome drinks, theme evenings).
- Responsible picnic accessories: at the store, we sell tuperware, bamboo cutlery to limit waste production.
- Waste recycling activities: our activities team organizes ecological treasure hunts, lantern-making workshops using empty plastic bottles, maracas made from toilet paper rolls, etc.
- Since 2024, we have partnered with our suppliers to take back and recycle single-use bed linen (whose use we also limit).
The water
- Automated faucets: our sanitary fittings are equipped with them to optimize consumption management.
- Hot water draw-off points: our draw-off points in the laundry and dishwashing areas prevent hot water from being wasted.
- Mixed water dispensers
- Reasoned watering: we only water green spaces early in the morning or after sunset with a drip system and oyas.
- Rainwater harvesters: rainwater harvesters enable us to recover water from our roofs.
- Leak hunt: we have installed water sub-meters and call on specialist companies to limit water leaks in the network.
Biodiversity
- Soft activities for the environment: a binder with hiking and cycling trails and bus timetables is available at reception.
- 0 pesticides and chemical fertilizers: we use none to maintain our green spaces.
- Eco-labelled products: we buy labelled products for the maintenance of common areas.
- Educational planters: (re)discover the region’s endemic species in our educational planters throughout the campsite.
- Insect hotels: we have installed insect hotels in the campsite to encourage insects to settle in.
Energy
- Motion and/or timer detectors: to optimize consumption management.
- Low-energy light bulbs (7 W): in all our rentals.
- Replacement of old bulbs: with energy-saving bulbs in collective buildings.
- Air-conditioning: to make use of air-conditioning more responsible and rationalize its use, it is a paying option in our cottages that are equipped with it.
- Solar energy: hot water in the east and west washrooms is heated by solar energy all season long.
Our economic and social policy
Our philosophy
- Traditional camping: with almost 90% camping pitches and 10% rentals (chalets and converted tents), we remain focused on our core business and expertise: camping.
- Independent camping: we’re not part of any camping group or chain, and we’re proud to be one of the last independent campsites in the Gorges du Verdon.
- Responsible marketing: we promote transparent communication and marketing by abolishing misleading advertising and giving the customer a voice via internet reviews.
- Seasonal wings: we are working on developing activity on seasonal wings to smooth out the economic activity.
The local economy
- We hire as many local people as possible (La Roche Esclapon, Barème, Trigance, Saint Jacques, Castellane, etc.) and for as long a period as possible.
- We use local craftsmen for all specific plumbing, electrical and wastewater treatment work….
- Promoting local produce: feeding the campsite
- Our partners are attached to the region and, wherever possible, are year-round residents.
